    Shipping 288's

I am getting ready to ship a pair of 288's. My plan is to bolt them to the bottom of the box and use the shelf with the holes to keep them from moving. Where is the best place to put the upper support shelf?

The shipping container looks plenty sturdy. You could pack it with bubble wrap and just put a lid on it.

My view is that you are not providing any shock resistance to the drivers....as the shelf is part of the box. Any jar to the box will transfer to the drivers.

I would isolate the bolted to board from the inside of the box....so it floats inside the box....and perhaps by the bolt board being a bit smaller.....and plenty of bubble and then another board and then zip ties around the perimiter to sandwich the drivers between two boards....and then bubble wrap layers below and above the sandwiched drivers.

    Are they going to Japan?

I prefer foam-in-place....usually drivers are around $20-25 each if you furnish boxes...many professional shipping places do it

I just saw this... Holy cow Jim!

Sure looks like one way or another, they are going to get here in one piece.

I just dropped you an email to let you know that the check is in the mail as the saying goes

Not sure what to suggest regarding isolation of the drivers but its always a good idea. I'm sure you will sort it out.

Take your time my friend. No huge rush on this end.

OG, what kind of foam do they use? Is is similar to the foam in a can insulation? I have yet to find anyone in San Jose that offers that service but I can buy cans of foam at H-D.

A quick Google turned up Navis pack and ship in San Jose, their web site says they do foam in place....

    Re: Shipping 288's

You should insulated them from shock, and being bolted in a crate won't do that. There will be shocks, of the kind generated by tossing and dropping boxes. Two inches of rigid styrofaom all around, arranged so the drivers are held in place. A well-taped, sturdy cardboard box is actually preferable to a crate, because it will absorb shock as well. If you can't find a sturdy cardboard box, box as described then double box that inside another large enough to surround the inner box with at least a two-inch layer of tightly packed peanuts. Again, well-taped.
